Taxpayers spent almost $200K for staff on leave amid St. Helens sex abuse scandal
1 min read
The ongoing criminal and non-criminal investigations into 10 St. Helens School District employees have cost taxpayers $191,000 in suspended staff paychecks and to pay their substitutes.
On Friday, the district revealed that two of those employees, a hall monitor and a math teacher at St. Helens High, were placed on leave before the scandal broke on Nov. 12 over the arrest of two other St. Helens SD teachers on sex abuse charges. The hall monitor was placed on leave on Sept. 20 and the math teacher has been on leave since Nov. 4. Neither faces criminal charges.
