Mayor Brandon Johnson and his team are reportedly working on a new city budget proposal after postponing Friday’s City Council vote due to lack of support among alders for the mayor’s $17.3 billion budget plan. Alders are hoping to receive at least a revised draft of the mayor’s budget on Sunday, so they have time to review it before the council reconvenes Monday. They’re specifically waiting to see if the latest proposal includes a property tax increase, something even members of Johnson’s progressive caucus could not support. One alder told WGN News the mayor is trying to "win over" those members.
