Neighbors cite ongoing safety concerns, gun violence at Portland’s Dawson Park

Portland City Council is pledging to continue making safety improvements to Dawson Park. On Wednesday morning, Council members unanimously approved a resolution to continue taking action to reduce crime and improve livability.

A member of the mayor’s staff said the city has already taken some steps to improve the area by adding extra lighting, increasing cleanup and site walks, and installing bollards in the parking lot to reduce traffic.

Several neighbors testified about continuing problems with shootings, drug use and crime.
