Holiday spirit remains after porch pirate “Grinch” steals delivery driver treats

For one Hazelwood resident, a Grinch is not going to spoil her appreciation for the hard-working delivery “Santas” that deliver to her place.

Jean Powell says a person walked up to her porch and stole a jarful of her holiday “Snowman Soup” packets.

“Every year, for as long as I remember, I’ve put together these little packets, “Snowman Soup.” It’s cocoa packets with little stir-ins and a stir stick. I leave them out for the delivery drivers, and I pass them out at Christmas. Last year, I did over 200 of them,” Powell said.

Powell adds that she has been making the packets for the last 20 years, but after this incident, which Powell says “is not a big deal,” some late-night delivery drivers are missing out.

“A Grinch porch pirate came by at 12:30 a.m. and used my lights and saw these up here and helped himself to some. Now I have to bring them in at night and I’m missing the delivery drivers that come at night,” Powell added.

Powell adds she is just trying to add some holiday cheer.

“If everyone does just a little something to cheer other people up, it’s going to be a very happier world.”

Powell says she didn’t reach out to police but wanted to make neighbors aware.
