Billie Eilish fans camping outside Moda Center robbed at knife-point ahead of concert

3 min read

KATU is on your side digging into crime data near the Moda Center after a scary scene played out on Saturday morning.

Dozens of people were just starting to camp underneath an overpass near the arena ahead of a concert, including Tina Bailey and her teenage daughter, Jessica.

She said at around 11 a.m., a woman approached them, demanded money, their sleeping bag and more.

“She had a knife, this big, under her shirt, like kind of tucked away,” the teenager told KATU.

Juan Villareal, another teenager from Florida, was waiting in line when he witnessed the incident and took a picture which appears to show the woman holding a knife.

“She had pulled out the knife and was coming after him and started stabbing his tires off of his bike,” Jessica said. “We don’t know if she actually stabbed him, but she was like kind of like grabbing his back and trying to attack him.”

Police said they responded to a call of a stabbing at Williams Avenue and Multnomah Street in the Lloyd District where officers arrived within 4 minutes.

So far, police have not found anyone who was stabbed, but they did arrest 52-year-old Agelique Butler of Portland.

Police said she was found with stolen items along with a kitchen-style knife. Butler is now facing robbery and weapon charges.

“Well, me and my husband will be out here tonight. I will say, the girls will probably not be camping out." Tina said when asked, ”why still wait there after the incident?”

The Lloyd District is no stranger to assaults and robberies.

Portland Police crime data shows between January and October 2024, there were 173 assaults. That is slightly up from the same time last year but down from 2022.

It also shows 29 robberies during the first 10 months of this year, a significant decline from 46 robberies in 2023.

"She had told my mom that she was trying to be nice because I was freaking out. So, it just worries me because, if I wasn’t there, would she had tried to come after my parents,” Jessica said.

At least 50 people were trying to get their hands on wrist bands, they said which would be handed out Sunday morning for a Billie Eilish concert Sunday night.

"My girls are one her biggest fans. I’ve never camped out for a concert. I’m doing all this for them,” Tina said.
