Vancouver parents express concerns over warming shelter near elementary school
2 min read
Parents in a Vancouver school district are voicing their concerns over a new city-run warming shelter planned to open near an elementary school.
According to city officials, the shelter is set to open at the old Community Library Building at 1007 E. Mill Plain Blvd. That location is next to the Vancouver Innovation, Technology, and Arts Elementary (VITA.)
“Some of those potential negative impacts could have lifelong impacts on her and other students her age,” one mother told KATU about her fears for her kindergartner when she goes to school. “I wish that the city would just, at least for now, put this on pause.”
