Searches of Grant High School students due to phone ban cause concern among parents
2 min read
Grant High School’s cellphone ban policy has come with searches of students, if staff members believe a student has not brought their Yondr pouch, where they’re supposed to store their phone.
District policy says that “officials are empowered to conduct searches of student/student property when there has been reasonable suspicion of a violation in regard of things to varying degrees.”
Adrian Pace is a student at Grant High. He says he was searched twice.
"I came to school on just like a random, I think, Wednesday, maybe, and there was probably a line all the way back from the end of the doors, just a lot of kids, because this process was really slow, and I just felt, really, like violated — like that to go through all my bag, and like kind of like dump out on the table, which was kind of weird," said Pace.
Pace says he didn’t have his phone at all the times he was searched.
