Giving Tuesday: Non-profits face shorter holiday fundraising window
2 min read
While the big holiday in November is Thanksgiving, many look forward to the days that follow it.
Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, shoppers look for all the great deals for holiday shopping.
For non-profits, the big day is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, known as Giving Tuesday.
It’s known to be the biggest fundraising day of the year.
KATU News spoke with the Salvation Army and they say that a late Thanksgiving will impact their kettle season.
Last year, Thanksgiving fell on the 23rd, this year Thanksgiving barely made it in the month of November falling on the 28th.
Now, you might not think this impacts anything besides when you get to feast on a big dinner but for the Salvation Army, they have less days to campaign from Thanksgiving day to Christmas Eve.
"People have always seemed to be very incredibly generous. This is gonna be a tough year for us because it’s a shorter season for us. So we have about five less days in our kettle season than we would normally have because of where Thanksgiving falls. And so this is gonna be a challenging one for us this year," said Major Jonathan Harvey, Salvation Army Divisional Commander.
The Salvation Army says they are proud of all their Red Kettle volunteers and love when they get creative to bring awareness to the cause.
