Southwest Portland business owners turn to private security after break-ins, drug activity

Portland police say they’re continuing to crack down on drug activity around The Portland Clinic in Southwest Portland, but some businesses are continuing to partner with private security companies to protect their properties, customers, and employees.

Chase Jordan, who owns Tursi Soccer, said he hired a private security company two weeks ago to patrol his store on Southwest 14th Avenue.

“We close at 6 and by 6:15 there were eight to 10 to 12 people doing all kinds of things you don’t want to be done in your parking lot, and they would stay there all night because there was no one to tell them to leave,” he said.

On Oct. 7, video from a surveillance camera shows a thief breaking into the store and stealing a cash box. Portland police say the suspect is still out there.
