Search intensifies for missing 61-year-old woman and her dogs in Oregon wilderness

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is intensifying its search for Susan Lane-Fournier, a 61-year-old woman who disappeared while hiking with her dogs in Mt. Hood National Forest.
Lane-Fournier was reported missing after failing to appear at work. She is believed to have been hiking with her two large Malinois-mix dogs in the Green Canyon Way Trail area, south of Welches.
Deputies attempted to locate Lane-Fournier at her home on Nov. 22 after her employer reported her absence.
The following day, a community member spotted her white 1992 Ford F-250 parked along E. Salmon River Road near the trail, prompting a search by the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team.
The search, which began on November 23, has expanded with the help of volunteers from Clackamas Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue. The operation has involved two trailing K9 teams and over two dozen ground searchers.
"We had eight teams in the field, and that comprised of about 37 folks, two drone operators in the field, and then we also had our own canine teams out in the field, and so those folks are covering a very large area," Ross Clemson with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.
The search will continue on November 25, with additional resources and personnel joining the search. Deputies are maintaining communication with Lane-Fournier’s family as the search progresses.
"Conditions they’re starting to experience running into snow, accumulated snow on the ground, and so luckily we have assets here today to help navigate that challenge," Clemson added.
Lane-Fournier, who also goes by "Phoenix," is described as 5’2", weighing 150 pounds, with reddish-brown hair.
Although familiar with the area, it is unclear if she was prepared for an overnight stay. Temperatures have dipped into the 30s, accompanied by light rain.
Anyone with information on Lane-Fournier’s whereabouts or sightings of her dogs is urged to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at 503-655-8211.
