Mult. Co. preschool provider says new county rule forces her to kick kids out of her care
2 min read
A Multnomah County preschool provider said the county blindsided participants with a new rule this week for its Preschool for All program — tied to who can get into their programs.
Preschool For All — funded by a tax on certain, high-income earners — covers the cost of preschool for about 2,000 children right now. Providers apply to participate and then set aside a certain number of spots for the program.
In prior years, providers could set aside Preschool for All spots for children already in their infant and toddler programs — called continuity of care. However, next year, the county is making them open half of their open spots to the community and only allowing them to set aside 50% of their seats for children already in their care.
