Longview family files lawsuit claiming police negligence in New Year’s Day shooting

The family of a Longview woman shot and killed by police on New Year’s Day in 2024 have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against three police officers who responded to the call.
The family of 29-year-old Katelynn Smith say she was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting. The lawsuit alleges the three officers who opened fire were negligent and violated the American Disabilities Act.
