‘That’s insane’: Some Portlanders could see a 30% hike on stormwater bills
2 min read
Thousands of Portland residents will soon see a big increase in their water and sewer bills as the city overhauls how it charges residential customers for stormwater services.
The city’s Bureau of Environmental Services finalized a 30.5% increase for certain customers starting July 1.
This means those customers will pay about $67 more per quarter – or $268 yearly.
“There are people who have lived here 20, 30, 40 years, and they’re on a fixed income… and suddenly to be told you’ve got to cough up an extra $100 every quarter. That’s huge, and I worry about them,” an East Portland resident named Angela told KATU.
