The Department of Defense is working to repair some of the harm done by “don’t ask, don’t tell,” that forces LGBTQ service members out of the organization they pledged to serve.
In October, the Pentagon announced it had finished its review of dishonorable discharges during that era correcting 96 percent to “honorable.”
But for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, that progress demonstrates the example Illinois is setting across the country.
