ROCKAWAY BEACH, Ore. (KATU) — A small tornado touched down in Rockaway Beach on Monday night.
The National Weather Service in Portland confirmed an EF-0 twister did damage in the coastal community. Photos and video from the Neah-Kah-Nie School District show windows being blown out and dumpsters moving across a parking lot.
NWS Portland says the tornado occurred about 9:24 p.m. Monday and had an estimated wind speed of 85 mph.
“This likely formed as a waterspout then made landfall, though the path was not continuous,” officials said.
The maximum width of the tornado is estimated at 150 yards and an estimated path length of 0.25 miles based on damage reports.
