Portland voters have elected a new mayor, and it’s someone new to local politics.

Trucking company CEO Keith Wilson held his first event as mayor-elect at a place in North Portland that is close to his heart.

“There are many places in Portland that are special to me, but the Charles Jordan Community Center is particularly special. It’s a place for families, for kids, an emergency shelter in times of need, and where I spent much of my childhood,” Wilson said to voters Thursday.

An outlier in the race for mayor, Wilson does not have local government experience, but he does have experience living in poverty. That’s why he says he ran a campaign on ending homelessness in Portland in one year.
