High voter turnout expected in Oregon due to automatic registration
2 min read
The clock is ticking for Oregonians and Washingtonians to turn in their ballot.
KATU Political Analyst Jim Moore says because the Oregon DMV automatically registers people who can vote, voter turnout might be higher than in previous elections.
“We’re expecting 80% to turn out, but what I’m looking for is what’s the absolute number of people who are voting,” Moore said.
He underscored key takeaways from this year’s election in Oregon, one that includes turn out that has been increasing.
"If that continues to grow, that will be a big thing as well. More people will be taking part in this in this electoral process,” Moore added.
Although all eyes are on the presidential election, voters should be looking at the mayoral and city council elections.
“Those are really important to your everyday life. They have to do with land use planning, have to do with how your community is dealing with things like homelessness,” he said.
