Rene Gonzalez broke campaign law by using city funds for mayoral Wikipedia edits: Audit
1 min read
The city of Portland Auditor’s Office has issued a redetermination in a campaign finance investigation involving mayoral candidate Rene Gonzalez, declaring that the Rene for Portland campaign did in fact violate city campaign laws by using city funds to pay for edits on Gonzalez’s Wikipedia page.
Gonzalez is a current city commissioner for Portland and is running for mayor in the 2024 election.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed on Aug.16, alleging that Gonzalez violated Portland’s campaign finance law by spending $6,400 in city funds to edit his Wikipedia page in connection with his mayoral campaign.
