School board members are no-shows at City Council hearing

The budget shortfall faced by Chicago Public Schools took center-stage during a heated City Council Education Committee meeting Wednesday at City Hall, but no school board members — outgoing or incoming — were on-hand to address it.
Embattled CPS CEO Pedro Martinez fielded questions from City Council members for more than an hour on a variety of topics related to the state of schools, the district’s budget and his plans for the future.
