Judge rules against Escuela Viva preschool, deflection center to open Monday

A Multnomah County Circuit court judge sided with county officials Friday and declined to issue a temporary restraining order that would have stopped the county’s deflection center from opening.

Escuela Viva, a preschool near the deflection center, had asked for the order.

Escuela Viva’s lawyer, David Watnick, filed the request for a restraining order on Friday, arguing the county’s deflection center would impact the preschool and claiming the county violated public meeting laws when convening a group of county and city officials to plan the deflection program behind closed doors.
