Full length interview with Mult. Co. on 30-day deflection data
1 min read
Seventy-one people have been assessed as eligible for Multnomah County’s new drug deflection program in the month since Oregon decriminalized drugs, Multnomah County reported on Friday.
On September 1, 2024, Oregon made carrying a small amount of illegal drugs a misdemeanor again, largely resulting from the fallout and controversy surrounding the 2020 voter-approved Measure 110. If arrested for possession, offenders could be charged with a misdemeanor and sent to jail.
However, legislators provided an option for all counties to offer deflection to eligible individuals in place of jail time.
