Iran fires 180 missiles into Israel amid escalating conflict
2 min read
Iran fired around 180 missiles into Israel on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
The missiles follow several offensive operations by Israel into Lebanon. Tensions in the region escalated with the Israeli ground invasion into Beirut and after the assassination of Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah.
KATU spoke to a political science and global affairs professor at the University of Portland about Iran’s missile response.
"Up until very recently, people saw Hezbollah and Iran as being very challenging," according to Jeffrey Meiser, a Political Science and Global Affairs associate professor at the University of Portland. "Israel’s actions show they can do a lot to degrade Hezbollah and Iranian capabilities. Iran and all of its allies are definitely on their back foot right now."
