Lawmakers, shelter providers probe spending, success of shelters in Oregon
2 min read
A group of lawmakers, members of the governor’s cabinet, and homeless shelter providers have started meeting to examine Oregon’s shelter systems, data tracking, and rates of success.
The focus of the group is to help Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS), the state’s housing agency, determine the best way to track and measure the success of Oregon’s unprecedented spending on shelter systems statewide. The group may also help shape legislation in the future.
"We have put 32 project turnkey facilities on the ground, we have put up navigation centers, we have passed emergency orders and put money into others kinds of beds, and at this point what we need to do is to take a step back and look at what we have created and figure out how we are going to support it," said Rep. Pam Marsh, D-Ashland, who put the workgroup together.
