The Oregon Humane Society is asking the city of Portland to improve the safety of the intersection outside its facility at Northeast 11th Avenue and Columbia Boulevard.
OHS says five employees, volunteers or clients have been involved in car crashes or near-miss incidents since 2018. Three were involved in car crashes, one was hit by a car while walking in the area, and another employee was involved in a near-miss accident.
According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation, eight people have died in car crashes on Northeast Columbia Boulevard within three miles of the humane society since 2018.
