A giant cat sculpture has disappeared and the organization behind it is issuing a public appeal to return it.

"I just love the city, and this is whimsical and I just refreshing and everybody can just be themselves," said artist Celeste Potgeiter who designed the missing cat titled, "Keep Portland Weird."

KATU News reported about the 30 “Coraline” inspired cat sculptures that were placed around Portland in August.

The missing cat had been located near Southwest Naito Parkway, near the Portland Saturday Market, just south of the Burnside Bridge, the Portland Metro Chamber said.

"At first we thought we got the wrong location, but on the app it shows you the exact location so we were stunned that it wasn’t there," said scavenger hunter Jennifer Avalos, a fan of the the Coraline movie.

Officials say the nearly six-foot cat statue disappeared late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

The cats are a part of the “Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail” that celebrates the beloved film from Portland’s LAIKA Studios.

Each cat on the trail will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for OHSU’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at the end of October.

“While we understand this project has created quite a buzz around our downtown and beyond, each of these unique pieces of art are part of a much larger fundraising effort for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital,” says Sydney Mead, Senior Director of Downtown Programs for Downtown Portland Clean & Safe.

“We ask for the safe return of this cat statue so we can continue supporting this important cause. Despite this unfortunate incident, the citizens of Portland have been exceptional caretakers of this art trail. We are grateful for those who continue to support this one-of-a-kind project in our city,” Mead said.
