Larch Creek Fire is ‘human caused’ officials say, 7,000 acres scorched so far

The 7,000-acre Larch Creek Fire burning in Wasco County is human-caused, the Oregon State Fire Marshal says. The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon and quickly grew into the largest fire burning in Oregon.
On Tuesday night, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek enacted the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Larch Creek Fire. The act allows additional resources to respond quickly to the fire.
“Oregonians across the state have been battling unusually high temperatures over the past week, which increased the threat of wildfire,” Governor Kotek said. “I authorized an emergency conflagration to allow additional resources to fight the Larch Creek Fire. I want to extend my gratitude to Wasco County, Oregon State Fire Marshal, Oregon Department of Forestry, and our federal wildfire protection partners for working around the clock to keep Oregonians safe.”
Several task forces from the Portland area responded Tuesday night. A Washington County task force including Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, and Gaston Fire responded. Clackamas Fire also responded as part of a task force from Clackamas County. Portland Fire and Rescue also headed to Central Oregon as part of a Multnomah County task force.
