PGE activates opt-in energy saving program during heat wave

As temperatures soared to dangerous highs again Tuesday, some Portlanders consented to letting their utility company control the temperature in their homes.
PGE says 22% of customers, about 200,000 people, are enrolled in its Smart Thermostat or Peak Times Rebate program.
Those who opt-in allow PGE to raise the thermostat in their home by one to three degrees during peak heat times.
