Portland to get WNBA team that will start play in 2026
2 min read
The #wnba announced Wednesday that #portland will welcome the league’s 15th team that will start play in the Rose City starting in 2026.
The expansion to Portland was years in the making.
A WNBA team coming to Portland was in doubt. Eleven months ago, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert was considering Portland as a place for an expansion but deferred at that time.
But now it is set to become reality, as she made the announcement at a media event at the Moda Center that Portland would get a team.
The Portland team will be owned and operated by RAJ Sports, led by Lisa Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal.
