Downtown streets open as Mexican Independence Day celebrations continue Sunday in Chicago

Hundreds of revelers are expected to pack downtown and the Little Village neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side again Sunday, as Mexican Independence Day celebrations continue. Sunday’s celebrations come a day after Chicago’s Office Emergency Management (OEMC) implemented rolling street closures and restricted access to downtown Saturday night in response to the crowds. The Mexican Independence Day Parade kicks off at noon Sunday in Little Village. The OEMC could restrict traffic in and around that neighborhood at some point Sunday.
