Man armed with knife shot, injured by officers after kidnapping woman in Salem: Police

A kidnapped woman is safe, and her alleged abductor injured after being shot by police early Friday morning, the Salem Police Department said.

Salem police officers responded to the call of a woman saying she was being kidnapped around 4:30 a.m.

Pursuing officers found the suspect vehicle with the woman inside and tried to make a traffic stop, but the suspect turned into the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Glen Creek RD NW.

Police say the driver stopped in the parking lot and the woman was able to escape the vehicle as officers approached.

The suspect then exited the car armed with a knife and was shot by two of the responding officers, the SPD says.
