Exclusive: Paid Leave Oregon prohibits processing of claims while on calls with claimants

An email obtained exclusively by KATU sheds light on an internal Paid Leave Oregon policy prohibiting staff from processing claims when the claimant is on the phone. The email was obtained through a records request.
KATU has been in touch with a Paid Leave employee who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation.The employee claims this is a new policy and says staff has been told to process claims on the phone in the past, particularly when the claim is not missing any documentation.
Paid leave director Karen Humelbaugh claims this is not a new policy and has been around since the start of the program.
