Nonprofit leads community effort to convert pavement to greenspace in Portland
2 min read
You may have seen it on your drive along Southeast Sandy Boulevard. And it probably grabbed your eye, because what’s happening is a whole lot different than what used to be here.
The one-time dangerous intersection around Stark Street will never be the same. What’s there now is a larger vision to re-green the space.
That includes tearing up some of the pavement and turning it into a cul-de-sac.
The nonprofit DEPAVE has done several transformational green space projects across the city, and the world. It held a big celebration at the intersection over the weekend.
Katherine Rose from DEPAVE says, among other things, it’s also about reducing ambient temperatures in the city.
