New Google Maps feature lets you blur out your home so burglars can’t see what’s there

1 min read

The FBI says break-ins happen every 26 seconds in the U.S., accounting for nearly one million burglaries every year.

One way burglars may target you is using Google Maps street-view images to see what’s in front of your home, such as what type of windows you have, access points and what kind of vehicles are normally parked there. It can also show criminals if you don’t have a security system installed.

Google is now allowing users to blur out their home.

1. Find your home on Google Maps
2. Go to the bottom right of the screen and click “Report a Problem.”
3. Clock what you want blurred, then hit submit.

Note that Google Maps says once you blur out your home, the change is permanent.
