Oregon Employment Department to re-open phone lines on Mondays by end of September

he Oregon Employment Department says it has made enough progress on claim backlogs that it will soon reopen its phone lines on Mondays.

In May, the department reduced phone hours by closing inbound call lines on Mondays. It also began opening the lines one hour later and closing them an hour earlier the rest of the week.

The department said the decision was made to give customer service representatives more time to resolve claim issues that people were calling about. The hope was that by resolving those claims more quickly fewer people would need to call in.

Starting at the end of September, the department will open phone lines on Mondays but will continue its current phone line hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. indefinitely.
