Plane crash claims the lives of three Oregonians traveling to see former President Trump in Montana

Three people with connections to Oregon are dead following a plane crash last Thursday, August 8, in a remote area of Montana.

The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office said they were able to identify one of the victims as 46-year-old Donald Long Jr. of Forest Grove.

Family members tell KATU News that Long, along with two others, were traveling to Montana to attend the rally of former President Trump in Bozeman on Friday, August 9.

Sheriff Dutton tells KATU News that they were alerted to a plane crash in the Scapegoat Wilderness area, south of Crown Mountain, west of Augusta, Montana.

According to LLCSO, the flight plan had the plane going from Pullman, Washington to Great Falls, Montana. The plane lost radar contact at about 12:30 p.m. east of Missoula. Air Traffic Control from Salt Lake City started making calls to see if the plane had landed somewhere. The plane originally took off from Twin Oaks Air Park south of Hillsboro, according to FlightRadar24 flight tracking.

The plane they were flying in was a Cessna 182, according to FAA records obtained by KATU News.

The NTSB and FAA were notified of the crash and responded the following day.

Sheriff Dutton says the remaining victims will be identified through DNA.

Long was the owner of Legacy Roofing LLC based in Forest Grove. In a post on the company’s Facebook page, employees posted “Rest easy Boss We love you, and will continue the legacy that you started.”
